What is Steam Boiler Additional Equipments
It usually consists of a condensate, deaerator, economizer, and water softening system, also sand filter and a chimney. Your need for auxiliary equipment for steam boilers varies depending on the project and your needs.
CONDENSATE TANK
Steam produced in steam boilers begins to condense after use in the plant. Condensate tanks are also part of this condensate recovery system and are used to store all condensate returned from the steam system. After the condensate tanks, hot water is fed into the deaerator and, if there is no deaerator in the system, it is sent back to the boiler.
Condensate tanks are an important part of a steam system and prevent steam from entering the external environment as the system operates closed. The feed water sent to the boiler waits in a heat-insulated condensate tank without heat loss, the amount of heat that must be given to heat the water in the boiler is reduced. This saves fuel and leads to lower operating costs.
DEAERATOR TANK
Gases such as O2 and CO2 in the feed water of a steam boiler cause corrosion in steam boilers. This corrosion over time damages the surface of the boiler, reduces the thermal efficiency of the system and shortens the service life of the boiler. The deaerator tank is used to purify the feed water from these harmful gases, thus prolonging the service life of the steam boiler system and preventing a decrease in boiler efficiency.
In order for the boiler feed water to be purified from these harmful gases, it must be degassed by passing through the deaerator device.
The supplied water is heated to 102°C in the deaerator. By storing the supplied water at 102°C, oxygen and carbon dioxide are removed and fuel economy is ensured in steam boilers.
ECONOMIZER
Economizers are an auxiliary element of the steam boiler to reduce operating costs due to fuel economy. The temperature of the gases from the boiler is very high. If we release this heat directly through the chimney, we will cause a large loss of energy in the system. Instead, by placing an economizer device between the boiler and the chimney, we return the waste heat back to the system. In other words, economizers are used in steam boilers to capture the recoverable heat from the boiler flue gases and transfer it to the boiler's feed water. An economizer that recovers waste heat can usually reduce fuel demand by 5-10% and pay off in less than 2 years.
WATER SOFTENING SYSTEM
Another mandatory auxiliary equipment of a steam boiler is a water softening system. Water softening systems are a system that serves to clean lime ions in water and protects against damage, as well as preventing unwanted problems such as shrinkage, wear and clogging that can occur due to limescale plaque in pipelines.
Hard waters have a higher boiling point due to their ionic structure. For this reason, heating hard water uses more energy than soft water, and hard waters stick to the surface of the boiler as they boil, which causes calcification on the surface of the boiler. Toalcification, it shortens the life of the steam boiler and reduces its efficiency over time. To prevent this, a water softening system should be used in steam boiler systems.
SAND FILTRATION SYSTEM
Sand filters are part of a water softening system and are a filtration system that serves to retain solids in the water. Depending on the need for water supplied to the steam boiler, this auxiliary equipment may need to be included in the steam boiler system as needed.
CHIMNEY OF STEAM BOILER
The steam boiler equipment needed to safely remove harmful gases released from the combustion of solid, liquid, or gaseous fuels in steam boilers and their transmission to the atmosphere is called a chimney. While the chimney emits harmful gases, it also creates the necessary traction to ensure combustion in the steam boiler.
